The Natural Self: A Writing Workshop (Prose and Poetry)

Tue Feb 11 2025 7:00PM – 9:00PM | Tue Feb 11 2025

Event Description:

Beginning writers frequently write one of two ways: either self-expression, or a description of nature. Such writing is a good starting place, but it tends to be one-dimensional, and thus limited over time. The ability to move beyond description of nature to inform self-expression, and/or to incorporate one's human experience into the natural realms is a characteristic of excellent, effective writing. Such writing taps into multiple levels that move beyond the writer's own experience to evoke deeper responses with a wider audience. In this workshop, consisting of five weekly sessions, students will examine sample poems and prose that combine reflections of nature with human expression. Students will be prompted to develop their own poetry and/or prose writing with this combined approach.
